Aspect Ratio Calculator
Find the simplified aspect ratio of a width and height, like 1920 x 1080 = 16:9.
Aspect Ratio Calculator
What This Calculator Does
An aspect ratio describes a rectangle’s shape - how wide it is compared to how tall - no matter its actual size. A 1920 × 1080 screen and a 1280 × 720 screen look identically shaped because both simplify to 16:9.
Finding it is just simplifying a ratio: divide the width and height by what they share (their greatest common factor). The tool reduces your width and height to the simplest aspect ratio and shows the decimal version too.
How It Works
Divide the width and height by their greatest common divisor to get the simplest whole-number ratio. The decimal ratio is width ÷ height.
How to Use It
- Enter the width and height (for example, in pixels).
- Read the simplified aspect ratio.
Worked Examples
| Width | Height | Aspect ratio |
|---|---|---|
| 1920 | 1080 | 16 : 9 |
| 1280 | 720 | 16 : 9 |
| 1024 | 768 | 4 : 3 |
| 2560 | 1080 | 64 : 27 |
FAQ
What is an aspect ratio?
The proportion of width to height, written as a ratio like 16:9. It stays the same when an image or screen is scaled.
What aspect ratio is 1920 x 1080?
16:9 — dividing both by 120 gives 16 and 9.
How do you simplify an aspect ratio?
Divide the width and height by their greatest common divisor, the same way you simplify any ratio.
