Take Profit & Stop Loss Calculator

Work out take profit and stop loss prices from a % , basis points, or points offset, and see the reward-to-risk ratio. Add named levels and an optional position size.

Take Profit & Stop Loss Calculator

Reward : Risk = 2.00 : 1 Take profit at 102, stop loss at 99.

Extra levels (optional)

Add reference prices at your own offsets. A positive offset is on the profit side, a negative offset is on the loss side. Rename each as you like.

A trade plan is really two prices and a ratio: where you take profit, where you cut the loss, and how the potential gain compares to the risk. This tool turns an offset you have in mind - as a percent, basis points, or points (a plain price distance) - into the actual take-profit and stop-loss prices, and shows the reward-to-risk ratio so you can judge the trade before you take it.

How to Use It

  1. Choose Buy (long) or Sell (short). For a buy, take profit sits above the entry and the stop below; for a sell, it is the other way around.
  2. Enter the entry price.
  3. Enter your take profit and stop loss, each with its unit - % / bps / points (100 bps = 1%; points is a straight price distance).
  4. Optionally add a position size to see the actual profit and loss amounts, and add extra levels to map out partial targets.

Reward-to-Risk Ratio

The headline number is reward divided by risk - the distance to your target over the distance to your stop:

reward : risk=distance to take profitdistance to stop loss\text{reward : risk} = \dfrac{\text{distance to take profit}}{\text{distance to stop loss}}

A 2 : 1 ratio means the target is twice as far as the stop, so the trade can be worth taking even if it wins less than half the time. The tool also shows each figure as a percentage of the entry price.

Extra Levels

Beyond the single take profit, you can add up to ten named levels at your own offsets - for example a partial exit at +1.5% and a stretch target at +3%. A positive offset is on the profit side, a negative offset is on the loss side, and each level shows its price and its reward-to-risk against your stop.

Notes

Results are estimates to help you plan; they do not account for fees, slippage, or spread, and nothing here is financial advice. Numbers are unit-agnostic - read the entry price in whatever currency or instrument you are trading.
